We have a challenge for you today and every day going forwards and that’s to walk 10,000 steps by lunchtime 🏃♀️🚶♀️
YES, that’s right, we recommend you get your 10k steps in before 2pm for optimum health… every day 💪
Some ideas of how you can do that: Workout in the a.m, walk to work, take the stairs, walk the kids to school, walk at lunchtime (by yourself to escape or with a friend to have a good old chin wag)…
Considering a lot of people in Western countries aren’t even walking 2,000 steps in their whole day, it’s pretty important to have a goal to work towards to help increase your everyday activity levels, especially if your job is sedentary 👩💻❗
The Italians have been considered a very healthy bunch of (incredibly stylish) people, not only because of their high fibre and varied diet but also because they tend to walk at least 30 minutes (usually before dinner time) every… single… day. The same can be said for the French, Spanish and Greek folks who all live longer than the ‘average’ and don’t appear to suffer the same health problems as most other countries.
Because children are now also very sedentary, in the UK they have even started to introduce a ‘walk a mile’ initiative called #thedailymile in schools to get kids more active. We’re meant to move, not sit on our bums!
Perhaps you can get your office or company to introduce a similar initiative?
Get colleagues, friends or relatives involved.
We’re on a mission to get more women (and their loved ones) moving more, so spread the word about this, about the Chicks of Wellness and let’s start to reverse some of the health issues that are creeping up in our society and especially affecting women!
Unless you have to walk slowly for a physiological or medical reason, try to make at least 10 minutes of your walk a day an ‘active 10’, this requires you to walk at pace, swinging your arms at 90 degrees (keeping your shoulders down and relaxed) and increasing your heart rate.
If you follow us on Instagram @chicksofwellness you will know just how much and how often we’re out walking (with our sausage dog) and we encourage you to do the same because this was a big game-changer when we were both working towards our own wellness transformations (lost over 90lbs between us!).
You can monitor your steps on your smartwatch or via an APP on your smartphone, or you can even buy a step pedometer for next to nothing these days and your phone probably has one on it. None of these are 100% accurate... but they aren't far off.
Let us hold you accountable and help in your motivation, whenever you hit your 10k by 2pm, take a pic of you and/or your stats and post on Instagram or Facebook tagging @chicksofwellness and using the hashtags #chicksofwellness and #10kby2pm We will be there to congratulate you and cheer you on every time.
So what are you waiting for?… don’t put off until tomorrow what you can start today, unless it’s after 2pm already, if so, perhaps start tomorrow… but start.
Will it be a challenge? YES. Will it be worth it? YES!
